to do: pbcore handling

• take in the existing xml file as an input arg
• add instantiations for derivs
• add xml file to package

What database system are you using out of curiousity? Does it natively read PBCore XML?

Lol, no. I'm still figuring out what our preservation database is going to look like. I got a copy of the mediamicroservices mysql database up and running with python... but I still want to make some fairly fundamental edits. I will probably add an entry to the objectCharacteristics table in that db and just add the xml as a string. My current thought is that we will store the output xml (from https://github.com/BAM-PFA/ingestfiles/blob/master/pbcore/pbcore.py) as part of our AIP. My boss is uninterested in pbcore, so this is kind of an exercise for me as much as anything.

What kind of database records would your boss be more on favour of?

Well we catalog in MARC ( http://oskicat.berkeley.edu/search~S43/X?SEARCH=(*)&SORT=D&m=g) and our collection management system is a super locked down FileMaker DB. So her position is 'whats the point.' She sees pbcore specifically as a fad and I have not had the time to advocate for recording metadata in a preservation context. I'm working with one of our film archivists on this and we feel kind of rogue half the time. Baby steps!

Basically resolved as of 2c479e2

• creates a pbcore xml file with instantiations based on mediainfo --Output=PBCore2
• if supplied with a BAMPFA-specific metadata json file, creates an instantiation for the physical asset and adds it as a related instantiation to digital instantiations

I'll close this when it seems more done....
