Export to the grid

Hi,
I’m trying to use a Smile 5 AC-coupled system with this integration.

Is it possible via this integration to:

Schedule battery discharge to export to the grid at specific times?

Trigger export on demand (forced discharge to grid)?

Or is the API limited to monitoring only?

Heya @lmoltchanski,

Yes you are able to schedule battery charging/discharging

As for triggering export, its not instantaneous, if you are looking for something like that, you'd most likely be better off with the modbus alternative

Thanks for confirming scheduling works.

If possible, could you provide a simple working YAML automation example for scheduling battery discharge to grid between specific times?

I’ve tried using the 15 or 30 minute discharge buttons and setting discharge time windows, but it seems this only affects discharge to load. I couldn’t get it to discharge to grid.

The Alpha ESS app also states that discharge times apply only to discharge to load. Alpha ESS support in Australia confirmed that export to grid is not supported from the app.

It seems the only options are VPP or a Modbus solution. I’m a bit hesitant to open the newly installed outdoor battery to connect a LAN cable for Modbus.

Would appreciate clarification if export to the grid via scheduling is actually possible through this integration.

Hi,

I have been playing around with this, and yes it appears discharge and export to grid are different things.

discharge just covers your load.

There is no export to grid unless you setup Modbus API...

If you are with Amber you can remote HA to tell Amber to export to the grid.
DM me if you need help with this as it is something I recently did myself and havent published anything.
