Recipe icons showing through all objects

The only way for icon to obscure it's owner building but not anything else so far points to custom depth pass via stencil buffer (not tested yet). Also there is a question - what's the correct way to show recipe icons in 3D space? Should they be obscured by power poles and wires for example?
