Update Notifications- and Messages-Counter as well

Curently it only updates the stream. It should update the little red counter on the notifications and messages as well and show "(n)" or "(m)" in the title.
If there are multilple title-enhancements, so something like this: "(1 n m)" or like that.

How can we use the script for notifications and messages? this is an excellent idea, I downloaded the code thinking in exactly this idea but I don't know about coding (and even less if it's commented in german xD)

Sorry for the german comments in the script, I developed this script mostly for my own use, maybe also for use by my friends who would all understand german. ;)
When I have time, I will translate those comments to english.

First you have to understand, how this script works. It sets a timer, that will trigger the stream-update every n seconds. If you want to do more than just the stream-update, you have to add your code to:
window.app.stream.autoupdate = function()

To find out what you have to add there, you have to reverse-engineer or at lest understand how backbone.js works internally (i assume), because the diaspora-frontend is written using backbone.js.

Example: I trigger .fetch() on the stream-model and register an eventhandler for the 'fetched'-event (window.app.stream.on('fetched', function()), which is called when the backbone-framework has finished its ajax-request and added the new model data to the stream-model. As a dirty fix I wait 50ms before doing my magic, because Diaspora itself does something on 'fetched' that must be done first, so I have to wait.

I suggest you look into the diaspora-code or debugg diaspora using chrome / firefox developer tools and look for the mechanism which is used to update notifications and messages in the top of your diaspora-browserwindow - and try to get your foot in the door.

If you so desire, you could trigger a discussion on loomio to include "auto update" functionality into main project - of course with a flag for the podmin to enable/disable to his/her liking.

That way the feature would be implemented in a "clean" way without hijacking functions in backbone.js ;)

so I just used your script on my pod
I will see if there is already a discussion on loomio for that topic
but if there is not, it sure as hell does belong there
amongst some other things ^__^
