for now I am doing the division only on branches with u = 0. This is what was intended when this was originally coded. This should now get merged into main. There is still some question of whether what was intended is correct. I.e., could v = 0 happen if u = 0? This would be OK. Could v = 0 happen if u != 0? That would be a problem.
