Refused to Connect

Hello all,

This seems to be a common issue and I've tried the fixes listed from previous posts, but I'm getting 'refused to connect' when trying to load the admin page.

I've updated the config.js file to include the module, its been installed (I think but new to this so can't be sure its installed - the files in the folders anyway), the whitelist IP has both the static IP of the MBP and the general WLAN IP range and still no joy.

What else is there to try?

Did you follow these instructions:

Whitelist the devices you want to access the mirror's settings from. If you want to whitelist all devices on your local network add:

ipWhitelist: [""127.0.0.1", "::ffff:127.0.0.1", "::1", 192.168.X.1/24 , ::ffff:192.168.X.1/24"],

Make sure you replace X with the correct number! you can find it by running ifconfig in your mirror.

Did you also whitelist the localhost?
Are you sure you are trying to access it via local network?
What (local) IP are you trying to access and what is the (local) IP on the machine you are using to access?
Can you paste here you ipWhitelist?
Can you send the error title, code, and description with as much detail as possible?

Hello Itay, Thank you for your reply, So I'll put my hands up here and feel I need to state I'm a noob when it comes to RPi and Linux. I'm OK in windows but just starting in this world. The Magic Mirror is my first project, I'm wanting to add additional modules as well but stubbled here. please see the details below: - Whitelist has been added for the RPI, my MBP and the entire IP range using the /24 range - Yes, I'm trying to access it via the local LAN. the MBP and RPi are on the same LAN, also I'm accessing it via the IP directly - http://192.168.0.110:8080/... etc - I'm accessing from 192.168.0.17 and I'm trying to access 192.168.0.110 - Export of ipWhiteList - ipWhitelist: [*"127.0.0.1"*, *"::ffff:127.0.0.1"*, *"::1"*, *"192.168.0.17"*, *"192.168.0.110"*, *"192.168.0.1/24 <http://192.168.0.1/24>"*,], - The error is basically the page fails to load. - I can ping, SSH to the same address so ruling out a connectivity issue, short of that I've no idea how else to trace / track or show any status requests for port 8080, confirm the services required are running etc Your best bet here is to treat me like a complete novice, as its entirely possible I've missed something rudimental like a firewall rule or some service which isn't running, or heck, not even installed the module correctly. I'm running on an RPi Zero W, using an image I found whilst digging for the mirror fix for zero W. I had a number of issues getting MM to work on the RPi Zero W initially following the guides, so went for a prebuilt image which at least works ...all be it basically. I've customised the config.js file a smidge to show different RSS feeds, along with updated API calls for weather and UK holidays. So it makes me think its in part working and more confusing why this module isn't working so far. Any help would be great, I'm treating this as a learning exercise as well. Cheers, Shane

Can you try to run npm run config:check at the MM folder? just to make sure...
To be honest, I don't currently run an updated version of MM myself and don't have much time for this project currently. First thing we need to find out if people currently run it successfully

I was thinking a lot of the development for the MM was around 2 years ago and the underline version of RPi O/S has changed. The output for the check shows as everything is OK. *pi@raspberrypi*:*~/MagicMirror $* npm run config:check

You can install the MM locally (not on the RPi) and see if it works, or you can VPS to the RPi and see if the website will load locally on the pie. If any/both work it directs us back to the connection issue, if not will have to look farther.

Sorry, nompty question but I'm not sure if VPS is running on the RPi. I doubt it, but how would I check / do this? Also on a side note, I'm not sure how I could install MM on something else. I'm guessing if I have a Linux VM running I can do it on that?! Any suggestions on guides for getting started? I may be going to outdated places and just wonder if theres a proven latest version.

You could run it on native linux/linux VM, or maybe Node.JS under windows. Connecting to the RPi via VPS shouldn't be a problem google it

If it can help, I changed the listening address in the config.json to be as below and now it works fine :

address: "0.0.0.0",

So I am a big noob because I can't find where to edit the ipWhitelist.

is this a system file? is it in MMM-Admin-Interface? Could it be under MagicMirror? Or is it a configuration in the config.js file?
