Capacitor Replacement 0.1uF to 1uF

Hi Felix,

Thanks for the great work, but i need some help troubleshooting my home made moteino.
The board can not be programmed using Arduino IDE (error: not in sync and programmer is not responding). I'm building Moteino R4 (non usb), the PCB it self is from OSHPark, and using the same type usb FTDI programmer like yours.

One thing that i want to make sure, i read in the bill of material moteino board eagle file, that capacitor 0.1uF can be replaced using 1uF instead, is that true?

i worried, that is the cause, because i'm using 1uF instead of 0.1uF. Please give me some suggestion about the capacitor.

And the Arduino IDE i'm using version 1.6.9 with Moteino in board manager, but still not sure for the programmer mode that i should use, USBAsp or AVRISP mkII or other.

Any help will save my life

Hey @MiaranaDIY, fellow Moteino user here. I'm sorry it's not working for you.

I suggest you ask for help in the LowPowerLab forums. A lot of Moteino users hang out over there and I expect someone would have a suggestion.

As far as the capacitor values, I wouldn't recommend substituting capacitor values like that. It's usually fine stabilizing the power rail and that sort of thing, but other circuits like the reset connection on the FTDI connector are more sensitive.

Replacing C1 with a capacitor that's 10x bigger is very likely to cause problems resetting the Atmega328P. If you're impatient and don't want to wait for the right size capacitor to arrive, try triggering the reset manually by touching pin 6 of the FTDI to ground for about 1 second as soon as you start to see programming errors in the Arduino IDE.
