Possible to add auto-table numbering across multi-page tables?

Hi,

When a table splits across multiple pages, is there any way to incorporate auto-numbering like in the attached images (1/n), (2/n), etc? Currently I am assembling all the tables and then manually renumbering which is painful if/when the TFL's need to be re-generated.

Please use \\pagenumber, \\totalpage, \\pagefield

They convert info to special RTF control word.

Thank you - I wasn’t aware those options existed.

But I'm having an issue with this after using assemble_rtf() it seems.

When I try something like:

it correctly counts the number of total pages for that particular table, but uses the current page number of the assembled document (not the table), like so:

Am I doing something wrong?

The second thing (which isn't as big a deal) is that there is a white space after the total page count and before the closing parenthesis that I can't seem to remove.

That's because \\pagenumber is a dynamic field but \\totalpage is not. (Because there is no dynamic field for total page in rtf control term as far as I am aware.

Could you help me understand your workflow and use case?

In general assemble_rtf is an ad-hoc helper function with several limitations. I would suggest to try assemble_docx https://r4csr.org/tlf-assemble.html#using-toggle-fields

r2rtf is a great package for creating TFL's but I'm sure I'm not using it in the most elegant way.

Currently, I write each TFL out to a separate .rtf via write_rtf(), then I'll compile those into one document using code like:

Is it better to write every file to a .docx and then compile using assemble_docx()?

In any case, I would love to be able to add a page number and total page count for any table or listing that r2rtf automatically splits over multiple pages. I know there is a page_by argument? but I don't think that’s what I'm after. I simply would like to be able to have r2rtf automatically add, for example,

" ...title... (1 / 2)",
" ...title... (2 / 2)"

to a table or listing if it's split over two (or more) pages.

It's not sounding like this is possible?

I would recommend to follow https://r4csr.org/tlf-assemble.html#using-toggle-fields if you need to assemble rtf files.

The feature to fix pagenumber is not supported at current version.

A quick way is to do a post processing of your r2rtf output by converting \chpgn to a numeric value based on its order, before assemble it.

Alternatively, we can consider a control term like \\pagenumber_hardcoding to enable the logic. (@wangben718, would you willing to take it?)
