[Problem/Bug]: WebView2 fails to start after automatic upgrade today (143.0.3606.0 canary)

What happened?

The call to CreateCoreWebView2ControllerWithOptions succeeds, but the callback has an error code instead of a valid controller.

ErrorCode: 0x80080005

Importance

Blocking. My app's basic functions are not working due to this issue.

We have reproduced this on multiple workstations. You can reproduce it with the WebView2 Winforms sample app

The CoreWebView2InitializationCompleted event is raised with the following value of CoreWebView2InitializationCompletedEventArgs.InitializationException:

System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80080005): Server execution failed (0x80080005 (CO_E_SERVER_EXEC_FAILURE))

We’ve encountered the same issue in our WebView2 applications as well. It’s preventing WebView2 from loading and crashes with the same exception that @avendel shared.
