Description
We currently stratify surgery rates into categories (e.g. "Abdominal surgery", "Neurosurgery", ...) and standardise on the nuber of patients in the department.
When doing so, we don't consider whether the hopsital even has a surgery department that's capable of performing procedures of the respective categories or not.
For some categories (e. g. Neurosurgery and Cardiac- / large vessel surgery) that quite a few hospitals cannot perform within their own hospital, this leads to more than half of the hospitals having a surgery rate of zero.
It's probably better to perform a poll among the project managers of our partner sites wheter ot not their hospital regularly performs certain categories of procedures and to calculate surgery rates by only including those sites answering yes into the denominator.
Questions:
- Do we want to perform this poll on a regular base in case things change in a hospital. If yes, at which interval?
- How do we handle cases where the project manager of a site tells us they cannot perform certain categories of procedures but we get one or multiple procedures of that category reported by the department?
