The last 2 years in BioPerl have been characterized by significant acceptance and use by the academic and commercial communities. Up until 2003 roughly 100 papers were published referring to the BioPerl package. Since then more than 200 articles have appeared that cite BioPerl, primarily in the areas of genome annotation and database construction.
