That's odd — batctl writes directly to sysfs (charge_control_start/end_threshold), which is independent of GNOME's power settings. GNOME uses power-profiles-daemon for CPU/GPU power profiles (power-saver, balanced, performance), but that's a completely separate interface from charge thresholds.
Could you share the output of batctl detect and batctl status? That would help figure out what's going on. Also, which laptop model are you on?

You can set the battery in gnome to only 80% charging in settings for supported laptops. I applied to stop at 100 but batctl status shows stop 60%. Systemd services are activated and running

I tried now adjusting the Thresholds and the horizontal navigation is completly buggy cant adjust it

Thanks for the detailed follow-up! I think I found the root cause.

The conflict is with UPower, not GNOME directly. Starting from recent versions, GNOME Settings → Power has a "Charge Limit" option that uses UPower's EnableChargeThreshold D-Bus API. When enabled, UPower writes to the same sysfs files (charge_control_start_threshold / charge_control_end_threshold) that batctl uses, overriding any values batctl sets.

You can verify this by running:

If it returns boolean true, that's confirming the conflict.

Fix: Disable "Charge Limit" in GNOME Settings → Power, then batctl will work as expected.

I've also pushed a fix that detects this automatically — batctl detect, batctl status, and the TUI will now show a warning when UPower is actively managing charge thresholds.

Regarding the horizontal navigation bug — could you share more details? Which terminal emulator are you using, and what exactly happens when you press left/right arrows? A screenshot or recording would help a lot.

On reopening it always says 0-60 % and the sliders dosent work at all like you can see in the video
