Proposal:

  • Investigate a finer-grained calibration workflow using a known target on the actual OpenScan rig.

Potential approaches:

  • fixed checkerboard with scanner-driven azimuth/elevation sweep
  • known calibration object or fiducial target
  • controlled angle/distance presets

Important constraint:

  • optimize for pose diversity, not just mechanical precision

Why:

  • should reduce operator variability
  • should improve repeatability versus freehand checkerboard capture
  • better matches real hardware usage

Desired outputs:

  • candidate motion plan
  • required metadata
  • criteria for acceptable calibration quality
