How to setup if MySQL has been installed using Binaries?

I am running into errors while
shell> make.
Errors like:

• Not able to find mysql.h
• /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lmysqlclient

and so on. It would be easier if some instructions to make specifically concerning Binary installed MySQL server were also uploaded. Thank you.

I looked around a bit and found the solutions to the errors mentioned above. My system was configured as follows:

1. I have MySQL installed @ /usr/local/6/mysql
2. I extracted the zip @ /usr/local/tpcc
3. When i hit ldconfig -p, I got the following output:

1494 libs found in cache /etc/ld.so.cache' libzzipwrap-0.so.13 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libzzipwrap-0.so.13 libzzipmmapped-0.so.13 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libzzipmmapped-0.so.13 ... ...

I then hit ldconfig -p | grep mysql and got the following output:

libmysqlclient.so.20 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libmysqlclient.so.20 libmysqlclient.so.20 (libc6) => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libmysqlclient.so.20

Now, to solving the errors:

- Solution to Error#1: Cannot find mysql.h:

Copy all the MySQL header files to src folder
cp -v /usr/local/6/mysql/include/* /usr/local/tpcc/tpcc-mysql-master/src

• Solution to Error#2: ld cannot find mysqlclient:

I found out that the problem was with soft-links. I ran ld -lmysqlclient --verbose and got the following output:

attempt to open //usr/x86_64-linux-gnu/lib/libmysqlclient.a failed

ld: cannot find -lmysqlclient

I then ran
cd /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/
ls -la | grep mysql and got the following output:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 Jul 20 00:59 libmysqlclient.so.20 -> libmysqlclient.so.20.3.6 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4237408 Jul 20 01:01 libmysqlclient.so.20.3.6

Thus, /bin/ld was trying to look for libmysqlclient.so(look @ line #5 of output above), instead the directory had libmysqlclient.so.20. I then renamed it as:

mv libmysqlclient.so.20 libmysqlclient.so, and ran make from the src directory. Success!
