PSIMaging module only appears available during an elevated session

I have tried to install the module (elevated permissions) per the instructions omitting the -scope parameter, and receive errors that items are unavailable or read-only. Once installed with the scope currentuser, I have to stay in the current elevated session in order to access the cmdlets. Also, if I close the session, I cannot simply re-open a new elevated session & run without re-installing the module.
