I am a developer / hobbyist that came across the CETI project from a youtube video on whale codas, it looks really interesting!

I tried to upload whaletag data into an s3 bucket, but I guess that same LAN means my machine has to be on the same network as the whale tag devices themselves?

I think it would be great if the open source community could help with the development side of the CETI project. Once a sufficiently large dataset from whaletags has been collected, hosting a kaggle competition might generate good engagement with programmers. I think people would be really interested in playing with / analyzing whale data.

I also may be misunderstanding the data upload process, but if there was a way to fetch the whaletag/CETI data remotely / not on LAN, that would also be useful. I think this project is cool, best of luck 🐋

I've just created two tools that let developers contribute without AWS credentials or physical whale tags:

LocalStack Integration (PR #33) - Test S3 uploads locally:

Everything runs in Docker - no AWS account, no physical hardware, no special network setup needed! Full docs in each branch's docs/TESTING.md.

These PRs are under review for the main repo, but you can test them now from my branches. 🐋
