Is this project still active? I am investigating this project for a consulting proposal.
The complete lack of updates since 2018 concerns me.
Also the versions on prerequisite software are now old.
Will this project have support now & in the future?
How does one get the passwords required in the .env.sample file needed to run the current-state demo? scripts/configure_va_demo ?

Hi @JohnDNC , thanks for reaching out. DistrictBuilder as a project is still active, although our primary development focus is on a new version, DistrictBuilder 2. This new version aims to improve on things from the previous version and will support congressional and state redistricting for all 50 states. DB2 will be released this year in preparation for the redistricting efforts with the 2020 census. This version of DistrictBuilder will likely be deprecated, but an official decision hasn't yet been made.

I'm interested to hear about what you'd like to do with DistrictBuilder. If you send me an email at tgilcrest@azavea.com, we can find a time to discuss what we can do to support you.

Hi @JohnDNC. After copying over the .env.sample file to .env, open up the .env file in a text editor and enter new passwords of your choice for all of the password fields. Then when ./scripts/setup is run, it will use these passwords when initializing all the services. As you've pointed out though, this repo has not been updated since 2018, so there's a non-insignificant chance you may experience various dependency-related issues.

Hi @JohnDNC I initially played around with the code here, but I found it significantly easier to run a demo (code named r2d2) of the active project azavea/district-builder-dtl-pa 0.9.0 utilizing docker with only a 2GB OpenVZ 7 instance. There are a few files you need to edit to get this to work. I shall try to post some directions here, hopefully, over the next few days.

@tgilcrest My motivation for doing this is to support the efforts by the League of Women Voters for our People Powered Fair Maps Campaign . However, I am happy to hear DistrictBuilder 2 is on schedule since this should provide a more powerful solution. I am President of the League of Women Voters of West Virginia, and strongly feel that DistrictBuilder should be a part of the League's Campaign.
