3h pub @g105b @richardbirkin
Planning the first piece of concrete code to develop.
Second get together with @g105b to look at the behat stuff I've written so far. Unanimously agreed that the first task is Github Discussion #4
Writing in Gherkin has given me a clarity of thought around what we're building that I've never had before. Used to think of the bugger picture and drilling down into the data. However the most important thing is just to SEE stuff. Hence the table of combined earnings pivoted around Tunes being the true MVP.
With one big change...because we're not thinking specifically about PRS as we always have. This means that a user could upload a Statement from a distributor that features more than one artist. In this instance, a Label User would want to pivot by artist or product (album).
We discussed the difference between Projects and Products. A Project is something that can be in progress or never finished - the Artist's point of view. A Product is something that has been finished and is making all parties some money that needs distributing out from one user to many - the Label's point of view.
Greg said that the crux of it all was "How I See The Data, Just For Me (the user)"
#4 Showing Combined Royalty Data
We broke this up into steps on paper. These steps will be the basis of the Units that we build to test as we go. The next step will be to write these up as Issues so that Greg can get cracking.
We paid particular attention to the mechanics of temporary file/data storage and timely removal if the user does not register. A user should not have to register to see what TrackShift can do.
Ambitions
We agreed that we should find a business manager/CFO type to engage with around funding/investment and the numbers/strategy we need to have in place to secure it. Need to further discuss what financial arrangement would look like given that we have no money.
We agreed to meet in the Alexandra Hotel on 1st November 2023 to talk about Trackshift, and for us both to be employed by Trackshift given that it will receive funding and/or investment.
We will also meet in this very pub on 1st November 2024 to talk about how to motivate our development team to crack the royalty flow from radio stations in Columbia (a completely random thought - I have no idea about the royalty flow from radio stations in Columbia - but it illustrates our mission of optimising the flow of money from source to Artist)
Other Stuff
After a couple of pints we talked about some anecdotal stuff to do with new PRS members that I've learned recently from some meetings/interviews.
I need to share my Distributor Statements with Greg, who already should have my Performance Royalty Statements from the last version of this project. It should still be organised in Google Drive so that shouldn't be an issue.
