Roadmap for v2.0 Release

This document outlines major fixes and improvements planned for the v2.0 release.

Recent Achievements

Over the past 10 months, we've made significant progress in stability and functionality:

Code Quality & Testing

• Increased code coverage from 0% to 78% with visual fidelity checks
• Implemented automated pipeline testing across multiple Python and Matplotlib versions
• Improved overall codebase robustness and maintainability

New Features

• Network plotting
• Lollipop graphs
• Beeswarm plotting
• CFTime support for Axes
• Curved quiver plots (coming soon)

These improvements were made possible through community contributions and bug reports. Special thanks to @beckermr for their ongoing support.

v2.0 Goals

• Finalize a general formulation for axes sharing beyond leftmost and bottommost axes
• Achieve minimum 80% code coverage -- currently 79.22%
• Add curved_quiver to PlotAxes
• Finalize a robust sharing mechanism for Cartesian and GeoAxes
• Improve the loading speed for config.py by making the Configurator less dynamic
• Add ternary plot and plot composition to embed non-ultraplot axes
• Improve axis alignment by updating gridspec to be more flexible.
• Add multiprocessing support by making RcParams thread safe (nice to have).

Note: This roadmap is subject to change based on community feedback and development priorities.
