Review provision of Royce image processing course

Talk to Anja and Erdem to ge the history - what was the demand for this course, who is paying for it?

@DrAtbas may have more information than I do as if I understand the history correctly, he taught this course in September 2023 before then teaching it alongside me in September 2024. I don't know if there were any occurences of it before then - Anja may know (or Erdem may remember).

We haven't taught it since September 2024 because the person who we organised it through (who was a Data Curator at the Royce Institute) no longer works for the university. We are currently in contact with another of the Data Curators to work out whether there is any demand for it to be run again for Royce.

My thoughts on this course going forward are that there may be interest from other departments in this course too, so it may be worth offering it as part of the Research IT courses instead. This is based on a few conversations I've had here and there with people in Biological Sciences / Imaging Sciences, and I imagine there might be people in Chemistry / Engineering who would also find it useful.

To add in more to @andrewgait's response:

In 2023, we had around 40 sign-ups, and in 2024, we had 20; however, I do not remember the number of people who turned up. I remember that in 2023, the classroom was more than half full. In 2024, we had around 10-12 people. Does that sound accurate to you, Andy?

Royce Institute was paying for the course.

Yes, it was low double-figures in the room in 2024 from what I remember.

That's the other thing to note - both instances were taught in-person. We haven't tried to run this course online at all yet.
