ESP overlay darkens the entire screen

Minecraft version: 1.21.11, fabric loader.
Mods: CheatUtils, Fabric API.
Fresh minecraft install, everything default settings.

Add a block or entity to ESP that's within range, and then enable the overlay feature. It results in the entire screen getting dark, proportional to the alpha of the overlay.

That's crazy. I was always just using my old config for testing and else, and it was working fine. I reproduced this, will check why it happens

As temp fix you can use status overlay module. As soon as you have it enabled and saved simple code, it fixes ESP overlays.
Code can be as simple as

overlay.add("");
