Poll: site stack

If we're going to be building software we'll have to pick a stack.

I suggest this as a base:

• SaltStack with Jinja for config/server management and automation (stable and good platform support)
• Docker for containerization
• HAProxy for load balancing

And for the site itself, there are a lot of options:

• LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP/Python/Perl)
• MEAN (MongoDB, Express.js, Angular.js, Node.js)
• .NET Core
• LAMR (Linux, Apache, MySQL, Ruby on Rails)
• Java-something (?)
• insert your favorite stack

Please comment with what you would prefer and could help with.

what about LEMP (Linux, Nginx, MySQL and PHP)? super easy to setup and maintain with reasonable performance. if you use AWS you can get going within the hour with RDS, EC2, Route 53 and ELB.

I can contribute some PHP and possibly some Python stuff, though I must admit that I don't know Python as well as I know PHP. I can also handle some miscellaneous MySQL stuff.

I sort of lean toward the LAMP stack setup myself having worked in PHP for a while although the suggestion from @DrOhReally to go with LEMP looks rather intriguing.

I'm fine building this in PHP, though my knowledge of it is pretty arcane.

Does anyone here have a good guide on modern PHP development? Maybe some
kind of style guide as well?

I think Linux + Apache/Nginx + MySQL + PHP would be a really nice and
accessible setup, though I'd like to propose optionally running all of that
on top of Docker (and maybe SaltStack as well), so it becomes super-duper
easy to deploy your own version of it. I'd like a first-timer to be able to
spin up his own version in literally 5 minutes.
