Loss of the current state when saving or publishing a workflow

I work with multiply nested workflows (nesting depth ~5). Saving and publishing a workflow often takes an extremely long time, and very often the current state isn't saved after publishing. Once, a workflow disappeared after saving and didn't reappear in the list at all. There seems to be a fundamental problem here!
