Stream/cast to Google Chromecast

Is this currently possible?
If not, how complex would it be for someone not familiar with the project to do?

Chromecast is not supported. I don't the hardware to test with.

For chromecast take a look at https://github.com/thibauts/node-castv2 and implementation in https://github.com/mafintosh/chromecasts/blob/master/index.js.

You can fork bitcast and create a file chromecast.js with api/interface matching https://github.com/fijiwebdesign/bitcast/blob/master/dlna.js
The you'd have to hook that into https://github.com/fijiwebdesign/bitcast/blob/master/cast.js which is the application start script when you call npm start.

The point of itergration would be getPlayers at https://github.com/fijiwebdesign/bitcast/blob/master/cast.js#L75

You could get the players available for chromecast. I believe the player api (play, pause, seek etc.) is equivalent so you can just drop the players into that array returned.
