Maximum call stack size exceeded

In creating new design for my sand table I often stack warps and noise effects. One thing that happens frequently when doing this is I get the "maximum call stack size exceeded" message:

Once this message appears, everything I did prior to the error message is lost.

1. Is there anything I can do to expand the call stack size?
2. is there any way to display the call stack size limit and how much has been used so I can creep up on the limit without exceeding it?
3. is there a way to recover my work before the stack size was exceeded? The "reset pattern" option doesn't help at all.

I can take a look and see if we can avoid this. Do you have a tried and true example that will crash the app?

I'll try to put together a drawing that causes it, but I only know if it causes the error by the error message, and I can't recover from it, so it might be difficult. Maybe a series of screen captures...

OK, I found something that works.
Import the attached file (change the extension to .gcode) , then add a loop effect. It will crash instantly.

This is helpful. The good news is that I can replicate the crash, and more importantly, in my current development branch with optimizations that we'll be adding soon-ish, it doesn't crash. I'll make a note to revisit this issue once the fixes are in, and you can retest then.
