Migrate to Turbo Modules

Is the package compatible with new architecture? If not, what is the plan of supporting it?

Hi there, react-native-cloud-storage should already be fully compatible with the New Architecture through the Interop Layer (which makes "old" modules using the legacy architecture compatible with the new architecture). I have just tested this on a React Native 0.74 app with the New Architecture enabled in bridged mode. I didn't have the time to test in bridgeless mode yet, but will do so in the next days (I don't see why the library wouldn't work in bridgeless mode, though). If you encounter any issues with bridgeless mode in the meantime, let me know.

However, we currently do not have a timeline as to when we'll migrate the library itself to the New Architecture / TurboModules. Since there are no known performance drawbacks to the Interop Layer, this isn't a high priority issue for us right now. We'll definitely migrate it way before the Interop Layer will be deprecated / removed, though.

FYI, I just tested the library in bridgeless mode as well and have indeed found an issue that has now been resolved in 1.4.2 (364baee). The library is now fully compatible with the New Architecture in both bridged and bridgeless mode using the Interop Layer.

Once I have a timeline on when we'll migrate to Turbo Modules, I'll share an update in this issue.

Thanks for the upgrade, @mfkrause. I can also confirm that it works nicely in Bridgeless mode with the New Architecture (expo-52).

I had a hard time drilling into the cause of the iOS app crashing. I finally managed to boil it down to react-native-cloud-storage. It's heartening to see that an update was already available for me to use! 👍
