Firefox add-on lacks menu option to disable override of browser's default new-tab behavior

Description

The Chrome/Chromium version has this menu option (Gear Icon):

• Default New Tab
  Turn on to get back your new tab. Access your Kanban board by clicking on the Scrumptious icon in your extensions toolbar

This option does not appear in the same menu, in the Firefox version 1.1.2.1.

The only way (that I can see) to restore Firefox's default new-tab behavior is to disable Scrumptious. Unfortunately, this also removes the Scrumptious icon.

Is there a work-around by editing the settings in about:config? I see some settings have been 'modified' (possibly by Scrumptious, they do not say) but it's not at all clear as to what may be done, to 'un-modify' them.

Please let me know if I am wrong, but I think this may be impossible, thanks to a security-vs-usability design decision at Firefox about two years ago. I seems that 'security' was on the winning side.

In an attempt to circumvent this I have installed the New Tab Override (Web Extension) by Sören Hentzschel and found that, even with this add-on, it is only possible to configure an automatically-appearing open-new-tab page that begins with http:// or https;//, but the default Firefox Home page is instead generated (internally, by Firefox) by entering about:home in the Address Bar.

This works in the FF Address Bar, but not in New Tab Override.

A manual work-around is to put the Firefox 'Home' icon in a very convenient location and then hit this, whenever one wishes to see the FF Default Home Page, AKA the selection of past web sites visited.

Or, forget about Firefox entirely and run Scrumptious in one of the 'Blink browsers' where its options selection is working, for selecting either Speed Dial, or Scrumptious, whenever a new tab is opened.

Unfortunately about:home and about:newtab are a privileged URLs on firefox so as far as I know there is no way to navigate to those directly :/ I will continue to look into this
