Overview

Migrate existing COBOL AS400 holiday and logging applications to a Java-based, microservices-oriented architecture with containerization and cross-application integration capabilities.

Objectives

  • Primary Goal: Convert current COBOL AS400 applications to Java architecture leveraging microservices for improved modularity and scalability
  • Containerization: Design as containerized microservices to enable service calls across the broader application portfolio
  • Deployment: Simplify deployment and management through container orchestration

Current State

  • Existing COBOL AS400 applications for holiday calculations and logging
  • Documentation gaps identified in current system

Required Work

Phase 1: Documentation

  • Create new system architecture design documentation
  • Update existing COBOL documentation to reflect current state of the system

Phase 2: Requirements & Planning

  • Define product requirements
  • Create technical specifications
  • Define epics and user stories for Java microservices conversion

Phase 3: Implementation

  • Develop Java microservices architecture
  • Containerize services
  • Implement cross-application integration
  • Testing and validation
