Biography

Andrea Havron is a statistical ecologist interested in improving fishery stock assessment methods and tools. She currently works for NOAA Fisheries’ Office of Science and Technology in the National Stock Assessment Program, where she leads research and development of statistical tools and methods to inform good practices in the fisheries stock assessment enterprise. She is currently a lead statistical computing engineer for the Fisheries Integrated Modeling System, a collaborative open science project, and a co-chair for the ICES Methods Working Group. She works collaboratively with other scientists at NOAA as well as international partners on research related to best practices in stock assessment methods. She completed her post-doc with the University of Washington and the Alaska Fishery Science Center where she developed a spatio-temporal finite mixture R package, clustTMB. She completed her PhD in Statistics from the University of Auckland, NZ with a focus on developing spatial modeling methods with TMB, her Masters in Marine Resource Management from Oregon State University with a focus on Bayesian species distribution modeling methods, and her BS in Zoology from North Carolina State University. In her spare time, she likes to garden and go on hikes with her family.

Onboarding Task Checklist

First Day

• Schedule first-day welcome meeting to review the onboarding process to the NSAP.

First Week

• Provide access to NSAP or higher-level email distribution lists.
