Palaeomys synonyms #165
Description
We have Palaeomys dehmi in the NOW, which is a synonym of Steneofiber dehmi (S. dehmi) is the valid one. The genus Palaeomys is synonym of Chalicomys (which is the valid one) but has been used for Steneofiber species in the past. The reference for this is Casanovas-Vilar et al. (2008; JVP).
Paleomys indet. is recorded from various (5-6) Pliocene localities from Russia and around. These should be changed to Chalicomys indet., although review of the material may reveal it is indeed Castor indet. which appears by this time in Europe. Anyway, not having means to review the material better to update the taxonomy only.
I cannot do this myself because requires touching already existing species in the NOW.
