(Paraphrasing an email from A. Lewinschall) On some machines, the scratch is not available until the node allocation is active. The user must separate the location of the batch job scripts from the actual scratch working directories for each individual job. It might be helpful to have an option to separate the temporary location of the job scripts and logs, and the scratch.
