I don't understand why this idea is not popular and almost felt into obsolescence in 2021; there is no need for a more expensive, harder to source Leonardo etc if one wants to send volume or brightness keys every now and then... all resources on this topic are from 10 years ago, for some reason, almost no one is interested in this today which baffles me.

Hi. I pretty know how to use Arduino leonardo or pro micro as a keyboard.
This idea is a good solution but you should understand that there's a lot of difference between Arduino's cost and for example a Attiny85!
In many countries in the middle east or Africa it makes sense to use cheaper solutions.
Think about it, in many countries the salary of the family is about 900$ or less per year! 😊

I think you got me wrong, I am thinking and tried to say exactly what you are saying. We are on the same page, I said “I am surprised the idea almost felt in obsolescence in 2021”, as in “I am surprised it seems no one it is interested in it anymore” because I find it very good. Like, exactly, I can’t find a Leonardo at the moment. And I more than know what you mean about money, I am not from the brightest place on Earth either but yeah, it is sunnier than in a lot of other places indeed. Anyway, for me, I have a simple use case, I want to emulate a keyboard to send the media keys. But I hoped for some ready made solution for all the Nanos/Unos I have laying around, which seems not to exist today, and since I cannot find a Leonardo, idk. I have too much stuff to do anyway, I’ll probably end up buying some very cheap keyboard with multimedia keys, hooking directly to its logic board and triggering that from a regular Arduino. Way easier I think than to again mess with tons of weird stuff. I can’t be bothered to hunt down and dix all the headers that are now broken which is pretty stupid. Toolsets should be more backwards compatible, this is very dangerous for the posterity, you lose code not because of disk failure but because the toolchain changes too drastically and no one has the time to endlessly “port” stuff over.
