Explain your issue

Jak X: Combat Racing (PS2) will soft-freeze at the “Creating initial save data” screen when attempting to save to PSMemCard Gen 2. This happens consistently and prevents the game from ever creating a new save on PSMemCard Gen 2. Other PS2 games (including Jak II and Jak III) save successfully.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:
1. Insert PSMemCard Gen 2 on a PS2 (or via OPL if applicable).
2. Boot Jak X.
3. Attempt to create a new save.
4. Observe that the game freezes at “Creating initial save data” indefinitely.

Expected behavior
Jak X should successfully create a new save on the PSMemCard Gen 2 device.

Observed behavior
Game freezes / soft-locks indefinitely at initial save.

Environment:
• PS2 model: SCPH-10K
• PSMemCard Gen 2 version: 1.30
• OPL version: 1.2.0 Beta 2249
• Jak X Greatest Hits Version

I can confirm the issue; creating the profile also fails for me on a SCPH-75001 w/ SCUS-97429 and loading the image via MMCE (and OPL beta2); the Browser shows "Corrupted data" in lieu of a savegame. (The console isn't locked up; BGM and background animations continue to play, but the "Saving..." never finishes.)

I don't think this a sd2psx issue as I believe it's MMCEMAN and MMCEDRV. I tested sd2psx nightly commit e0a862e with the latest OPNPS2LD-v1.2.0-Beta-2223-45875da downloaded from here, https://github.com/ps2homebrew/Open-PS2-Loader , using a PSxMemCard Gen1, PSxMemCard Gen2, in slot 1, and it created the initial save without issue when loading SCUS-97429, Jak X - Combat Racing V2.0, MD5 verified 05ed20ea58cf6c410314d1fd1905c002, from an internal hard drive on a NTSC SCPH-50001. I also burned a disc, loaded it on a NTSC SCPH-90001, and it had no issue creating the save file with PSxMemCard Gen1 and PSxMemCard Gen2 in slot 1, using nightly commit e0a862e.

When I run OPL - MMCE beta 2 using a PSxMemCard Gen1 and PSxMemCard Gen2 from slot 2 for game loading, with a PSxMemCard Gen1 and PSxMemCard Gen2 in slot 1 for saving, then it will freeze at the Creating Game Save file screen. I also tested a real memory card in slot 1 and it also froze when running OPL - MMCE beta 2 from slot 2 for game loading.
