Behavior of remaining branches after first completion within a fork with compete = true

When using fork with compete=true the behavior of remaining branches after the first completion is unspecified:

• should other branches be aborted?
• should they continue up to completion?

My initial thoughts are:

• it would be strange to stop them, as this is not a common behavior in general programming languages
• stoping them would introduce a need for synchronization between branches, that would make the implementation less efficient when implementation allows for a distributed execution of branches
