Add to Contextsearch not working in Chrome manifest v3

I have the same problem as op. When I try to add engine via right click the background is dimmed and the dialog won't appear.
It works though when I click the toolbar icon and then on little green +.

OS Win10. Any chrome based browser: chrome (new install default extension options), edge, vivaldi. Tried another pc win11 same thing.

This appears to be an issue with ServiceWorkers and the Image() constructor. I've added a workaround to the repo.
