Using index templates for easier index management

Hi, I was wondering if it would be a valuable addition to use index templates to make the management of Elasticsearch/OpenSearch collection and item indices easier. For example for (manual) re-indexing of documents to apply changes or to correct dynamically generated mappings. There is already support for aliases, so this would be another addition to leverage these tools for index management.

If you think this would be useful, I could work on this and provide some examples in the documentation.
