Open in new tab trigger popup warning

Isn't there a better way to open in a new tab without triggering a popup?
Sure I can set it to always allow popups from this site, but I have to do that for every website I use this extension with, and maybe I don't want to always allow all popups.
I'm not sure how the API works for an extension, but with a normal link, you can set it to open in a new tab without the popup warning.

Same here with FF 138, it asks permission for popup open. Per comparaison, OSM Smart Menu does not ask for popup, it opens a tab without permission request.
