Email relay situation

Here's the situation:

• To provide maximum automation, I initially used sendmail directly (it was supposed to be a personal project at the time), but sendmail sucks when used directly because its emails often end up in spam.
• So I introduced a verified system that allows everyone to send emails immediately without any configuration, but obviously it is not unlimited. We have a total of about 500 emails available per day, and if we exceed that, sendmail will be the fallback, but sendmail requests port 25.

We can increase these limits to essentially unlimited targets by upgrading to better plans.

Yesterday, we reached the limit, so we are evaluating how to proceed for the most complete experience possible (hopefully ready-out-of-the-box).
We did not expect such high interest and rapid usage, but we appreciate that it is useful and welcome!

Is there no way to use Proxmox's own internal Notification system (via its "endpoint" name, or similar)? I have my own SMTP provider setup in Proxmox's notifications. So I'd rather just send through that way, then I can get around any port 25 limits, etc.

Hi, thanks for the great work you've shared.

In my situation, the pve doesn't have internet access. I have a local MTA configured (Postfix) that works perfectly for pve notifications. I can also send emails with the sendmail command.

Why does proxsave need to test whether mx.kpnqwest.it:25 or mx2.kpnqwest.it:25 are reachable (and they obviously aren't) and the MX of my domain? I'd suggest just sending the email with sendmail and testing for any error codes.

Hi, unfortunately, the email issue cannot be resolved immediately and easily because there are many variables.
Standard sendmail uses port 25 (in Europe, this port is open by providers, and the project was initially only for my use, but then it was opened to the “world,” and some did not have sendmail working, and sendmail did not always give clear errors, which is why this check is needed).
I am now integrating proxmox-mail-forward. Would that work for your purposes?

Hi, proxmox can send mail with no problem, so I suppose it should be work for me. Many thanks.

P.S. To be precise, your script finally manages to send the email, I just didn't understand why it had to run those tests towards the external network which in my opinion are useless or at least it should be possible to disable them with an option.
