Feature Request

Anisotropic filtering option would be very useful as it can greatly improve how games look and it'd be nicer if you could use it from xemu itself rather than having to force it from GPU control panels

Note that on NVIDIA + Linux, you can force 16× anisotropic filtering on the xemu Flatpak like this:

If MangoHud were to be properly supported by the xemu Flatpak, would its af option not work? I tried to get MangoHud working with the Flatpak with a combination of env vars and commands, but no luck (seems to be a common issue with MangoHud running in OpenGL mode).

I believe xemu does not yet properly emulate the anisotropic filtering that was supported by DirectX; it'd be good to fix that before adding a host-level option to avoid masking the problem. I suspect the lack of this implementation is a contributing cause for the #2385 cases that are not fixed by emulating LOD biasing.

#2450 adds support for the settings specified by the games themselves. Once that is merged it'd be good to reevaluate whether an additional setting is justified/useful.

An override will still improve quality in nearly all games, as games that use AF on Xbox almost never use 16× AF. This level of AF is virtually free on modern GPUs, as the bottleneck in emulation is typically elsewhere.

16x wasn't supported on the nv2a, as far as I can tell from the bitfield, so the best they ever would've used was 8x.

I think it's still a reasonable feature request, though ideally I think it'd be good to get #2456 get merged first so we can tell that people have aniso forced to some value when reporting bugs.
