User-Centered Design Artifacts

Phase I: Analyzing Users, Competitors, and Initial Designs

Executive Summary

  • Competitive analysis revealed that existing solutions were largely usable, but they either had missing desired music, required online services to use, or had constant ads
  • Heuristic evaluation of multiple competitors identified consistent weaknesses in error prevention and flexibility, particularly around managing playlists and safely handling user actions
  • Development of personas and scenarios confirmed the findings of our analysis and evaluations. Users want:
    • An application that can be used offline, as opposed to only online
    • Little to no ads that obstruct or interrupt their experience
    • Easy and safe access to desired music across multiple platforms
  • Our sketches and diagrams translate these findings into an initial design, implementing important features such as searching by platform and ease of app traversal, while incorporating safeguards like confirmation steps before destructive actions
