This directory contains the source files for the LinkedEarth tri-fold brochure, designed for conference and workshop distribution.

Format Specifications

• Paper Size: 8.5" × 11" (US Letter)
• Layout: Tri-fold (3 panels front, 3 panels back)
• Panel Width: 3.67" each
• Margins: 0.25" all sides
• Output: Print-ready PDF

Panel Layout

When the brochure is laid flat, the panels are arranged as follows:

Outside (Back when flat):

[Panel 6: About]  [Panel 1: Cover]  [Panel 5: Community]

Inside (Front when flat):

[Panel 2: Data]  [Panel 3: Tools]  [Panel 4: Training]

Folding Instructions:

1. Right panel (Panel 4) folds inward first
2. Left panel (Panel 2) folds over the right
3. Result: Panel 1 (front cover) is visible when closed

Compilation Instructions

Prerequisites

You need a LaTeX distribution installed with the following:

1. LaTeX Distribution:

   • macOS: MacTeX or BasicTeX
   • Linux: TeX Live
   • Windows: MiKTeX or TeX Live

2. Required LaTeX Packages:

   • leaflet
   • fontspec
   • xcolor
   • graphicx
   • hyperref
   • qrcode
   • fontawesome5
   • enumitem
   • tikz

3. Fonts:

   • The brochure uses system fonts (Arial, Nunito Sans)
   • If Nunito Sans is not available, install it from Google Fonts
   • Alternatively, edit the \setmainfont command in the .tex file to use a different sans-serif font

Compiling the PDF

From the print-materials/ directory, run:

lualatex trifold-brochure.tex

Or if you prefer XeLaTeX:

xelatex trifold-brochure.tex

The compiled PDF will be saved as trifold-brochure.pdf.

Note: pdflatex will NOT work because the document uses fontspec for custom fonts.

Printing Instructions

Office/Home Printing

Paper:

• Use 28-32lb bright white inkjet or laser paper
• For best results: Premium matte or glossy photo paper

Printer Settings:

• Paper size: 8.5" × 11" (Letter)
• Print quality: Best/Highest
• Color mode: Color
• Scale: 100% (no scaling)
• Orientation: Portrait

Steps:

1. Print the PDF
2. Let the ink dry completely (if inkjet)
3. Place printed side up, landscape orientation
4. Fold the right panel (Panel 4) inward toward the center
5. Fold the left panel (Panel 2) over the right panel
6. The front cover (Panel 1) should be visible when folded

Professional Printing

For quantities over 100, consider professional printing services.

Print Specifications:

Format: Tri-fold brochure
Flat size: 8.5" × 11"
Finished size: 3.67" × 11" (when folded)
Paper: 100lb gloss text or cover stock
Finishing: Score and fold
Color: Full color (4/4)
Bleed: 0.125" (if required by printer)

File Delivery:

• Provide the PDF file to the print shop
• Request scoring (creasing) along fold lines for crisp folds
• Specify fold direction (right panel in, left panel over)

Updating the Brochure

To update content:

1. Edit trifold-brochure.tex with your preferred text editor
2. Modify text within the panel sections
3. To change colors, edit the \definecolor commands:

   \definecolor{primaryblue}{HTML}{4A7BA7}
   \definecolor{secondaryblue}{HTML}{6B9BC3}
   \definecolor{accentblue}{HTML}{2E5F7F}

4. Recompile with lualatex trifold-brochure.tex
5. Test print to verify changes

Troubleshooting

Font Errors

If you get font errors, try one of these solutions:

1. Install Nunito Sans: Download from Google Fonts and install on your system

2. Use a fallback font: Edit the \setmainfont command to use an available sans-serif font:

   \setmainfont{Helvetica}  % or Arial, or any available font

3. Use the default font: Comment out or remove the \setmainfont line to use LaTeX's default font

Compilation Errors

• Ensure you're using lualatex or xelatex, NOT pdflatex
• Check that all required packages are installed
• Verify that assets/linkedearth-logo.png exists

QR Code Issues

If QR codes don't appear:

• Ensure the qrcode package is installed
• Update to the latest version of your LaTeX distribution
• Alternatively, generate QR codes separately and include as images

Print Quality

• Ensure PDF is printed at 100% scale (no "fit to page")
• Use high-quality paper for best results
• For inkjet printing, allow adequate drying time
• Test print one copy before printing multiple
