A simple bookmarklet that will quickly tell you the number of words and characters you have selected, as well as the estimated reading time. Options for auto close, history, etc.
- Go to the Installation Page.
- Drag the green WordMarklet button to your bookmarks bar.
- Done!
- Go to the Installation Page.
- Right-click the green button and select "Copy Link Address".
- Create a new bookmark in your browser and paste the copied code into the URL field.
The main window shows the word count, character count, estimated reading time (@ 230WPM), a timer bar, and some controls:
Pressing the cog icon will open the settings menu where you can toggle auto-close, the auto-close time (this is how many seconds the window will stay open before it automatically closes), and the history items to store:
The history menu keeps track of the last X wordcount checks you performed. It captures the number of words/characters, a brief snippet of the captured words, and a timestamp. You can clear the items from your history here as well. All of this information is stored securely in your browser. This feature is helpful for those individuals that may forget what they were just doing from time to time cough cough
I build tools like WordMarklet because I love tinkering with things and making the web a little more useful.
If this tool became a part of your workflow today, consider tossing me a buck or two on Ko-fi. It honestly helps keep the motivation high (and the electricity flowing). ❤️
