WinUtils is a CLI application featuring a bunch of useful commands and utilities for Windows 10+.
Some of the features include:
- %TEMP% folder cleaning
- Recycle Bin querying and emptying
- Viewing installed updates
- Viewing disk usage
- Saving Windows Spotlight images
- and more to come
Many commands support a --format option which can be used to write to the stdout in various formats such as JSON for easy integration.
WinUtils can be installed in one of two formats: Standalone or Onefile. Standalone is your traditional installation where all files are installed to a single folder. Startup speeds are quick but the application is not very portable. Onefile installations bundle everything into a single executable, which is more portable but adds a noticeable startup delay as the application needs to extract its files before executing.
Adding WinUtils to your PATH is handled for you when using the Standalone installation. If you chose the Onefile installation then you'll need to add it to your PATH manually.
SpotlightSaver is now deprecated and its functionality is bundled into this application. To run the SpotlightSaver command on login, install it via the Standalone installation and run winutils spotlight-saver --startup. Run the command again to disable.
Make sure to disable running on login before uninstalling WinUtils.
