Is your iPhone on its last legs? Send it out in a blaze of glory. Use Ill Advised to document its final moments while you: throw it off a cliff, toss it in a wood chipper, launch it into space, run it over with a truck, or whatever your dark heart desires.
This iOS app captures every moment of your phone's destruction from multiple cameras while overlaying all sensor data - GPS coordinates, altitude, speed, g-forces, orientation, and more - as your device meets its spectacular end.
This app exists as a commentary on first-world excess. The ability to intentionally destroy a device that costs hundreds of dollars—a device that many people globally cannot afford and would treasure—is a stark illustration of wealth inequality.
If you use this app, we ask that you acknowledge this privilege by making a donation to organizations working to bridge the digital divide and provide technology access to those in need. Consider it the "price" of the app.
Digital Equity & Technology Access:
- EveryoneOn - Connecting low-income families to affordable internet and computers
- PCs for People - Provides refurbished computers and internet to those in need
- Donate: https://www.pcsforpeople.org/ (click "Donate" button on their site)
- World Computer Exchange - Delivers technology to underserved communities globally
- Computers With Causes - Gives computers to families, students, and nonprofits
Note: If any donation link is broken, visit the organization's main website and look for their "Donate" or "Support" page.
General Relief & Aid:
- Direct Relief - Emergency and medical assistance worldwide
- Doctors Without Borders - Medical humanitarian aid in crisis zones
- World Central Kitchen - Food relief in disaster areas
- GiveDirectly - Direct cash transfers to people in poverty
Choose an amount meaningful to you—ideally what you would have paid for this app ($5-20). Better yet, consider the value of the phone you're destroying and donate a portion of that.

Include the following in your App Review Information:
This is a novelty/entertainment app designed to record a phone's final moments
as it is intentionally destroyed by the user. It captures sensor data during
activities like throwing, dropping, or otherwise destroying old/broken phones.
The app requires camera, microphone, location, and motion sensor access to
record all data during the phone's "final journey."
Intended for users disposing of old phones who want to create entertaining
content. Social media streaming allows users to share the destruction live.
Add an in-app disclaimer on first launch:
DISCLAIMER: This app is intended for entertainment purposes and for users
who have decided to dispose of their iPhone.
- Only use with devices you intend to destroy
- Do not throw phones at people or animals
- Follow all local e-waste disposal regulations
- Ensure data is backed up and wiped before destruction
- Be mindful of environmental impact
- Stream to social media to preserve the footage!
By using this app, you acknowledge your device will likely be destroyed
and the developers are not liable for any damages.
The app uses only Apple's native frameworks:
- AVFoundation (camera and audio)
- CoreLocation (GPS and compass)
- CoreMotion (sensors and motion data)
- Combine (reactive data binding)
- AuthenticationServices (OAuth)
- UIKit (UI)
For production RTMP streaming, consider integrating:
- HaishinKit - RTMP streaming library
- VideoCore - Video encoding and streaming
- Multi-camera support: Only available on iPhone XS/XR and later
- RTMP streaming: Requires third-party library implementation (placeholders included)
- Battery usage: Intensive sensor and camera usage will drain battery quickly
- Storage: Video recordings can consume significant storage space
Test the app thoroughly:
- Test all permission requests
- Verify sensor data updates in real-time
- Test recording with various activities
- Test camera switching
- Test on different iPhone models
- Test with low battery scenarios
- Test with limited storage
- Test social media authentication flows

This app is a novelty/entertainment application intended for documenting the intentional destruction of old or broken iPhones. The developers are not liable for any damages to devices, property, or injuries resulting from the use of this application. Users are responsible for properly disposing of electronic waste according to local regulations. Do not throw phones at people, animals, or in dangerous situations. Always ensure personal data is backed up and wiped before device destruction.
The existence of an app for destroying phones is absurd in a world where billions lack access to technology. We don't profit from this app, and we strongly encourage users to reflect on the privilege of being able to destroy a valuable device "for fun."
Before using this app, please donate to one of the charities listed above. Make the destruction meaningful by ensuring it contributes to getting technology into the hands of those who need it.
This app is free. Your donation is the real price of admission.
