Thanks for your contribution. Is there a specific reason to bump the Go version other than getting the tests in #67 to pass?
Also the dependency update in #67 does not introduce something, that would result in a significant difference for this package, afaict.

I also bumped the package dependencies. #67 does not introduce any significant changes, but the version bump allows a general dependency bump and the removal of a transitive dependency.

Given that #67 does not introduce any significant new feature or urgent fix, I prefer to hold off on merging this particular update right now.
