MDviewer is a straightforward application for viewing Markdown documents. It works on macOS and shows your Markdown files with clean fonts and layouts. You can also print your documents or save them as PDFs directly from the app. This tool helps you read and share Markdown without the need for extra software or coding.
Before getting MDviewer, check your computer fits these needs:
- macOS 10.14 or later (Mojave and newer versions)
- At least 2 GB of free RAM
- Minimum 100 MB free disk space
- A screen resolution of 1280x720 or higher
- Displays Markdown files clearly and with proper formatting.
- Exports your files as print-ready PDFs.
- Supports images, links, and basic Markdown elements.
- Provides a simple user interface with no extra options to confuse you.
- Loads files quickly, even large documents.
- Supports dark and light modes depending on your system settings.
To use MDviewer, follow these steps carefully. No coding or extra tools are needed.

This page hosts the files you need to install MDviewer.
On the download page:
- Look for a purple or dark gray button labeled
ReleasesorLatest release. - Click this button to open the release list.
- Under the latest release, find the file ending with
.dmg. - This is the installation file for your Mac.
- Click the
.dmgfile to download it. - The file size is approximately 30 to 50 MB.
- Once downloaded, open the
.dmgfile by double-clicking it. - A new window will open showing the MDviewer app icon.
- Drag the MDviewer icon into your
Applicationsfolder. - This copies the app to your Mac and makes it available like any other program.
- Go to your
Applicationsfolder. - Double-click MDviewer to open it.
- If you see a security prompt warning, click
Open. - You can now start using MDviewer.
- After launching MDviewer, you have two ways to open your Markdown file:
- Drag the
.mdfile directly onto the MDviewer window. - Or click
File>Openand select your file from the dialog.
- Drag the
- Your document will display with clean typography and easy-to-read layout.
- Links, images, and headers appear as expected.
- You can scroll or resize the window to fit your comfort.
- To save your document as a PDF:
- Click
File>Export as PDF. - Choose your destination folder.
- Click
Save.
- Click
- Your Markdown will export as a PDF that looks like a printed page.
- To print directly, click
File>Print. - Adjust printer settings if needed.
- Click
Printto start printing.
- If MDviewer won’t open, check your Security & Privacy settings under
System Preferences. You may need to allow apps from unidentified developers. - For slow file loading, make sure your Mac has enough free memory and close unused applications.
- Large images may slow down rendering. Use optimized images if possible.
- PDFs keep fonts and styles consistent across devices.
- If you accidentally delete your files, they will not be recovered by MDviewer. Always keep backups.
- You can open multiple Markdown files by running several MDviewer windows.
