Lots of activity on this old project. Curious what you are doing? |

Hi Paul - the TTRN type transformers are getting very hard to find in any quantity and increasingly expensive, there are lots of shady offers out there and I can't guarantee the quality for a factory production run. Every time you find a supplier with any quantity, they cancel the listing and it appears a few days later at double the price. Tokyo Coil doesn't seem to produce the TTRNs any more, so the problem will only get worse - at the same time, I see the price of the LM3478 has dropped to jelly-bean levels. I have a couple of hundred custom wound transformers on the shelf for this design and can get more made any time I need. I need a 5V SMPS for the new MNC6 board I am doing, and so have opened up work on this again. I did a unit around the MAX668, basically the same as the NCV8200 - it works fine, but it's a mess because of the transformer problem. I also prefer your design, because it barely gets warm and is more efficient than the TTRN type units. I wouldn't merge this if I were you: there are no meaningful changes to your original design. I moved everything over to 0805 or above, because I can home produce in moderate quantities if needed. I also dumbed down the features a bit - no external shutdown and no external voltage setting. I also shrank the design a bit. |
Hi Paul, make a few little changes to the Silk screen and re-enabled (but hid) layers that are not in use.
