Overview

In Japan, traffic congestion results in a total annual expenditure of 3.8 billion hours. The annual economic loss due to traffic congestion is estimated to be as high as 12 trillion yen. To address this issue, a novel transportation system has been developed. Our proposed system is predicated on the premise that the absolute positions of all vehicles on the road are known via communications and controlled centrally. This system ensures seamless coordination, enabling vehicles to move in a timely and predictable manner, and eliminating the need for traffic signals. The prototype we implemented involves multiple vehicles operating in formation, seamlessly merging at intersections without the need for any stopping. It is anticipated that the implementation of this system will not only substantially reduce the time wasted by individuals in modern society but also contribute to the resolution of numerous social issues, including the realization of safe transportation, economic loss, and energy problems.

日本では交通渋滞によって,1年間に延べ38億時間という膨大な時間を無駄にしているという.
そして渋滞による経済的損失は,年間で12兆円にも上る.
この問題を解決するため,新たな交通システムを開発した.
私たちが構想するシステムでは,道路上の全ての自動車の絶対位置を通信により把握し中央制御することで,
全ての自動車が協調し滞りなく移動する.つまり信号機を必要としない交通の世界が実現するのである,
実際に私たちが実装したプロトタイプでは複数の自動車が隊列走行しながら,交差点でも止まることなく合流する.
このシステムは,現代社会に生きる人々の移動にかかる無駄な時間を大幅に削減するほか,安全な移動の実現ならびに経済損失やエネルギー問題の解消など,多くの社会問題の解決に繋がると考える.
