@hfiguiere I'll look at this but I'm still confused about the use of dateTaken for sorting. Are you suggesting via this pull request that the current sorting algorithm should be changed (see #1341 for rationale of current sorting).

Just FYI, on the gallery tab the sorting is reverse chronological ordering by date/time uploaded. When viewing an album it's chronological by day and within each day it's chronological by time.

What you are saying that sorting is inconsistent and can't be configured? What I'm proposing is consistent sorting that still can't be configured.

If you look at the development branch you'll see that you can change the sort order; though it is not sticky. The development branch supports user defined sorting.

There's a lot of discussion in #1341 with regard to different sorting on different pages that I don't want to discard.
