Conferences

In #41, I found a resource listing a large number of conferences pertaining to software engineering. I filtered these to ones with upcoming submission deadlines and found the following. So far, I think ICSME 2024 is the most viable (and it seems like we agree; see #42). I will also keep running my script to see when new conferences are added (and will continue to add conferences from outside Canada and the US, since I limited myself to them at first!). I also found this paper containing a list of 101 academic conferences about software testing; only QRS 2024 seemed to be "high" quality but didn't quite make the cut (#42).

ICSME 2024: 40th IEEE International Conference on Software Maintenance and Evolution (website)

  • Oct 6-11, 2024 in Flagstaff, AZ | Submission Date: Apr 11 (Apr 4)
  • Important notes: "Papers submitted … must not have been published elsewhere and must not be under review", must "adhere to the two-column IEEE conference proceedings format", "must not exceed 10 pages (including figures and appendices) plus up to 2 pages that contain ONLY references", will go through "a double anonymous reviewing process", and must be presented by one of the authors
  • "Software testing theory and practice" is given in their "not limit[ing]" list of topics
  • h5-index of 35 (Google Scholar) and a 23.0% acceptance rate (OpenResearch)

ISSTA 2024: 33rd ACM SIGSOFT International Symposium on Software Testing and Analysis

  • Sep 16-20, 2024 in Vienna, Austria | Submission Date: Apr 12
  • Important notes: "Submissions … should not have been published previously or be under consideration for publication" and "should be at most 10 pages in length, with at most 2 additional pages for references only" and will go through a double-blind review process
  • They are looking for "research papers describing original contributions in testing … of computer software", including "original theoretical or empirical research, new techniques, methods for emerging systems, in-depth case studies, infrastructures of testing and analysis, or tools"; seems right up our alley!
  • h5-index of 40 (Google Scholar) and an average 27% acceptance rate (ACM); the previous edition has been downloaded almost 35'000 times (ACM)

ESEM 2024: 18th ACM/IEEE International Symposium on Empirical Software Engineering and Measurement

  • Oct 20-25, 2024 in Barcelona, Spain | Submission Date: Apr 26 (abstract; submission due May 6)
  • Important notes: "Submissions should not be under consideration for publication or presentation elsewhere", "are limited to 10 pages excluding references and 12 pages with references", will go through "a double-blind review process", and "must be presented by one of the authors"
  • They are looking for "research results related to empirical software engineering" done "from an empirical perspective and using a rigorous empirical method", including "survey research" and "systematic literature reviews … that include a strong synthesis part", which seems like what I'm doing
  • One of the "topics commonly addressed using an empirical approach" is "software verification and validation, including analysis and testing"! 🥳
  • h5-index of 30 (Google Scholar) and an average 22% acceptance rate (ACM); the previous edition has been downloaded almost 5'000 times (ACM)

ICSOFT 2024: 19th International Conference on Software Technologies (website)

  • Jul 8-10, 2024 in Dijon, France (Hybrid) | Submission Date: Apr 1, 2024
  • Important notes: "submissions should not substantially overlap work which has been published elsewhere or simultaneously submitted to a journal or another conference with proceedings" and will go through a "double-blind paper evaluation method" (CFP).
  • There are three main topic areas (our most relevant one is "SOFTWARE ENGINEERING AND SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT") with multiple subtopics (which includes "Automated Software Engineering", "Software Engineering Tools", and "Testing and Testability").
  • 9 out of 239 of their program committee are from top-100 universities.
  • Assuming this is them (note that this one says "Joint"), they have an h5-index of 13.

Uncertain

ACM WSSE 2024: 6th World Symposium on Software Engineering

  • Sep 13, 2024 - Sep 15, 2024 in Kyoto, Japan | Submission Date: Apr 30, 2024
  • Important notes: they provide a LaTeX template, and if used, "manuscripts should be at least 4 full pages and extra pages will be charged when the paper has over 5 pages" and "will be double-blind peer reviewed" (source)
  • "Software testing and analysis" is a topic
  • They "request that you have your work proof-read prior to submission by a native English speaker (or at least a fluent English speaker)", but I doubt they did that for their website 🙃
  • 3/84 of the committee are from a top-100 university
  • h5-index of 8 (Google Scholar) and over 10'000 downloads since its inception in 2019 (ACM)

QUORS 2024: 18th IEEE International Workshop on Quality Oriented Reuse of Software (website)

  • Jul 2-4, 2024 in Osaka, Japan | Submission Date: Apr 15, 2024
  • Important notes: "Authors submitting articles must disclose whether there are prior publications, e.g., conference articles, by the authors that are similar, whether published or submitted" (IEEE policy)
  • They provide an IEEE template and state "all submissions must use US 8.5×11 letter page format"
  • The main focus is "software reuse which emphasizes meeting strict quality requirements"; this includes the topic of "software quality metrics and testing"
  • 2/28 of the committee is from a top-100 university
  • Despite it being put on by IEEE, I couldn't find anything on Google Scholar or ACM; is this because it's a workshop? Are workshops in scope for us?

TechDev--EI 2024: 13th International Conference on Computer Technologies and Development (TechDev 2024)

  • Oct 9-11, 2024 in Huddersfield, UK | Submission Date: May 10, 2024
  • Important notes: "Submissions must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere", "will be subject to a double-blind peer review process", and must not exceed 10MB; a LaTeX template is provided
  • 3/39 of the committee are from top-100 universities

DCCS 2024: The 3rd International Workshop on Dependable Computing for Complex Systems

  • Jun 24-27, 2024 in Brisbane, Australia | Submission Date: Mar 22, 2024
  • Important notes: they are looking for "unpublished research papers … of at most 8 pages, including figures, references, and appendices" (and don't permit "simultaneous submissions to other conferences") that "conform to IEEE authoring guidelines" (and provide a template)
  • "Software testing, verification, and validation" is listed as a topic of interest
  • None of the program committee is from a top-100 university, but 1/7 of the co-chairs is (all committee members are from Japan or China; not sure if that skews this metric)
  • I can't find any metrics for their credibility, which is probably a bad sign 😅
